IMPRESSIVE 95 POINT-SCORE BRINGS SANTORINI ASSYRTIKO GRANDE RESERVE 2014 INTO TOP PLACE
Second highest score -94 points- for SANTORINI VINSANTO 2010
95 was the highest score assigned by Mark Squires at much-awaited Greek wines tasting for the June issue of Robert Parker’s WINE ADVOCATE. And the impressive rating went to… Santorini!
“… brilliant, delicious and impressively structured” for SANTORINI ASSYRTIKO GRANDE RESERVE 2014, the current vintage of the only Grande Reserve version available in the market by SantoWines. The complexity of the wine made by 100+ -year-old Assyrtiko vines, matured for 12 months in French oak and further cellared for a year before release was awarded 95 points.
94 points -the second higher score of the tasting- was given to SANTORINI VINSANTO 2010. And since “… the most important thing with any Vinsanto is how the acidity cuts the sugar”… the label of SantoWines is, according to Squires, “pretty gorgeous“.
The impressive results for SantoWines went on with two more wines scoring 90 points –SANTORINI ASSYRTIKO 2016 and the new MAVROTRAGANO 2015-, while 89 points were assigned to the first ever sparkling Assyrtiko from a Santorini producer –SANTO SPARKLING BRUT METHODE TRADITIONNELLE 2014– and the Assyrtiko 2016 from organically grown grapes.
The extraordinary ratings by the esteemed WINE ADVOCATE are yet another proof of the far-sighted and consistent work by SantoWines that celebrates its 70th anniversary this year, and the dedicated team of oenologists headed by Nikos Varvarigos. The goal remains solid: the preservation of the authenticity of the Santorinian vineyard and the promotion of highest quality wines, worthy of a long-standing, unique tradition of the island’s vine growers.
