The Union of Santorini Cooperatives, SantoWines, was one of the cooperatives presented as a case study of successful rural cooperative organization, at the workshop held in Brussels on 17 October 2012 for the European project "Support for farmers cooperatives".
This European project explored the effectiveness of measures to support cooperatives, analyzing the performance of cooperatives and the factors affecting it, such as internal governance, institutional environment and their role in the food chain. This project is of paramount importance, given that the European Commission has decided to confer to selected cooperatives a pivotal role in the implementation of the new CAP 2013-2020.
Key member of the consortium that has implemented this great research was Dr. Costas Iliopoulos from the National Research Foundation. In the event of the Oct. 17th SANTO WINES was represented by Mr. Matthew Dimopoulos, General Director.
