Welcoming 22 Masters of Wine

SANTO WINES winery, one of the top oenotourism destinations in Greece, with the mesmerizing view of the famous Caldera, welcomed 22 Masters of Wine on the first day of their visit in Santorini. (April 25th).

The President of SANTO WINES and EDOAO (New Wines of Greece), Markos Kafouros, guided the esteemed guests headed by Konstantinos Lazarakis MW at the impressive facilities of the Union –largest in Santorini and among the most state-of-the-art wineries in Greece- where today 65% of the local wines are produced.

Expressing perfectly the uniqueness of the terroir and capturing the distinctive character of the indigenous varieties, the SANTO WINES labels stood out for their authenticity and highest quality.

The tasting of a selection of signature wines –fresh and aged, white and red (Assyrtiko Grande Reserve 2006, Ampelia 2002, Mavrotragano 2010, Vinsanto 8 years) was a stunning experience, peaking with the uncorking of a Vinsanto 1992 Vintage which attracted the most positive remarks and led to a numerous of posts in social media.

An equally dreamy setting of unprecedented natural beauty and the famous Santorini sunset on the background, hosted the dinner at the SANTO WINES terrace. The esteemed Chef Vassilis Zacharakis blended the rich gastronomic heritage of the island, the full-flavored local products -cheese, tomatoes, “fava” (split peas)- and creativity presenting a splendid menu, perfect pair to the wines.

It must be noted that the wines of the Union of Santorini Cooperatives were also tasted during the second day of the MW visit on the island, offering an in-depth experience of the SANTO WINES portfolio.
